Dr. Maria Bairaktari graduated from the Department of Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She holds a Master’s degree in “Translational Research in Biomedicine” from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Democritus University of Thrace. In 2023, she completed her PhD at the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Her doctoral thesis, titled “Synthesis of new bioactive compounds and encapsulation development systems in nanoparticles” was funded by the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). Her doctoral research focused on the development of new bioactive compounds, emphasizing Green Chemistry methodologies, the development of “green solvents” as reaction catalysts and extraction media and bioactivity studies. Furthermore, she worked on recovering bioactive molecules from natural sources and developing encapsulation systems using selected nanocarriers. In 2022, she completed an International Master in Business Administration from Guglielmo Marconi University of Rome, titled “Growing Green Economy through Green Chemistry and Green Solvents with Innovative Technologies”. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in European programs at the University of the Aegean, focusing on “Green surfaces for passive atmospheric water harvesting,” and at the University of the Peloponnese, focusing on the “Valorization of green extracts rich in bioactive ingredients for the development of innovative functional foods”. She has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as an Adjunct Lecturer at various Greek universities. Her research includes publications in refereed journals and international conferences.
