    SHORT CURRICULUM VITAE

He received his B.Sc. degree in 1985 from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois in Mechanical Engineering. His M.Sc. (1987), and Ph.D. (1990) degrees from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in Theoretical & Applied Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering, respectively. During the period 1992-93 he was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Laboratory of Experimental Mechanics and Advanced Materials of the Center for Quality Engineering and Failure Prevention at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA. He subsequently jointed as a Scientific Associate the Structural Programs Section of the Hellenic General Secretariat for Research and Technology, Athens, Greece (1994-1996). In 1998 he joined the Department of Industrial Management and Technology at the University of Piraeus. During 2006-07 (for five months) and 2011 (for two months) he pursued a sabbatical leave as a Visiting Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. He is a Visiting Faculty at the postgraduate programme “MSc in Strategic Product Design” in the School of Science & Technology of the International Hellenic University. He teaches the courses of “Engineering Mechanics-Statics”, “Strength of Materials”, “Materials Selection in Product Design”, “Product Design and Development” and “New Product Development”. He is a reviewer to many international scientific journals and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) and Vise-President of the Greek Society of Experimental Mechanics of Materials (GSEMM). His research interests and experience focus on materials and mechanics in design, experimental mechanics, mechanical characterization of polymers and composites, materials processing, test methods development, and failure analysis. His current research interests include advanced materials in additive manufacturing and biomanufacturing, characterization of biomedical materials used in 3D printing techniques (and their medical applications), and material selection methods in sustainable products design. He has published 130 technical papers in refereed scientific journals, book chapters, proceedings’ books and conference proceedings.
